hi, all! the DC improv festival is coming in october, and we're writing to seek donations from the many improv enthusasts among us. we're also interested in leads on and outreach efforts to other sources of donations that you might know about.
- (there's a copy of the call-for-proposals at

sponsoring the festival with a donation is a good way to enhance it. though much of the work is done done through volunteer effort, strategic use of funds can make publicity, workshops, and other crucial things work so much better that the overall quality of the festival is raised. that means more reach to people who would enjoy and energize the improv events that we all relish.
you _could_ look at donating as a use for the money you don't spend each time you attend the jam, since gwu makes our space available for free. really - this is a way to direct those savings towards more dc dance improv. this town is not a big one for art at the edge, institution-wise - the energy often has to come from the grass roots, and this is an opportunity to fertilize those roots!
we are pursuing some foundation grants, some of which may require matching funds. if any of those land, personal contributions will be doubly important - the amount of funds we raise otherwise can set the limit on the grant funds. in any case, a contribution small or large means that you are counted, proving to our sponsors that there's a constituency hungry for this kind of event.
if you're ready to contribute, here are instructions:
make the check payable to:
Dance Construction Company
that's maida wither's 501c3 not-for-profit, so your contributions are fully tax deductable.
clearly note in the memo that the donation is:
for the DC Improv Festival
send via land mail to:
Ken Manheimer PO Box 53102 Washington, DC 20009-3102
you can also give it to me by hand at the jam, if you prefer.
and if you would prefer to use paypal, contact me via email and i'll look into it
feel free to ask me questions, if you need to know more before contributing.
one more thing.
we're writing not only to pitch for your funds. we're also interested in other leads and outreach - other places with kindred spirits who would want to know about the festival, and/or might be interested in contributing. dc-ci is big enough, and has enough arts activists of various flavors, that it's certain some of you are involved in likely prospects. do you know of some likely sources of interest? would you be willing to reach out to them? let us know. this event is not spoon-fed - it's an opportunity which you can help realize.
thanks for your interest!
